ABOUT BROADWAY

Broadway Industries started in November 1957 as Brother Sewing Machine Corporation (New Zealand).  It subsequently traded as Brother Distributors and then Brother Holdings, selling knitting machines and typewriters.

The Broadway Industries name was adopted in October 1987 when the company became an industrial investment company.

HE Perry Limited and Mercer Stainless Limited were acquired in 1987 and remain core businesses of the Broadway Industries Group.  HE Perry is a distributor of photographic equipment and Mercer Stainless is a stainless steel fabricator.

Mercer Stainless acquired AiCO Manufacturing in 1988 which manufactured specialist materials handling equipment.  In 2002, Mercer Stainless acquired Medisys which supplied sterilizers washers and disinfection equipment and services to the medical and laboratory sectors. In 2004 Mercer Stainless acquired Equipment Maintenance which manufactured vacuum packing equipment.

The AiCO, Medisys and Equipment Maintenance businesses were combined to form Mercer Technologies in July 2004.

The principal activities of the Broadway Industries Group today are:

• The importation and distribution of photographic equipment and related products by H E Perry.  The principal agencies held are Olympus, Ilford, Polaroid, Ademco, broncolor, Bronica, Cokin, Sunpak, Tamron, Visatec and Uniross.
• The manufacture and supply of kitchen, bathroom and laundry products by Mercer Building Products, a division of Mercer Stainless.
• Stainless steel fabrication by Mercer Stainless workshops in Christchurch and New Plymouth.
• The manufacture and supply of specialist equipment and related products by Mercer Technologies.  The principal agencies and brands supplied are AiCO, BetavAc, Mercer, Belimed, Matachana, Ken, Warwick Sasco, Interster, Pereg and Dr Weigert .
• Mercer Technologies is also involved in the development of new innovative technologies and products
